Vacations in Cancun have been a family tradition long before this little grandson was even born. In 1996 we bought a timeshare at the Royal Resorts and have enjoyed going there almost every year. The beach here is beautiful. As much as we loved the house we rented in Gulf Shores for our 50th anniversary trip, that beach had many jellyfish. Cancun has none.
There is a free phone app called TripCast that we learned about last spring. If you and your family are traveling, you, too, will love this. Just go to TripCast.com. As many people as are invited by the initiator of the trip can view or post photos. Many of us posted pictures and those of our family at home could follow what we were doing each day. I certainly ended up with many great photos I would have missed if I were on my own. I also really like the feature that each photo posted also comes via email and can be downloaded….like this one.
So much to do
It took me several days to unwind and get myself in a new routine. I had worked ahead of time to prepare several dry ingredients for cooking: Spices for our favorite enchiladas, Snickerdoodles, Zucchini Muffins, Paleo Pancakes. John and I so enjoyed all the fresh tropical fruit in Cancun. I made it a point to get in all of my 10,000 FitBit steps each day either with walking on the beach or just walking here and there. We added in swimming too. It took two big villas for those who went, but we got together several nights for dinner at one of our villas. I’ll share just a few pictures so you can get a glimpse of the many things we did. Traveling with the Buchanan’s (our daughter’s family) is always busy.
The Time for Sea Turtles to Arrive and Lay Their Eggs
Each night there was at least one big sea turtle (and a couple of nights 3 or 4) that drug themselves from the sea up through the sand right in front of our villas to dig a hole and lay their eggs. The Royal workers are so good to watch for the turtles and rescue the eggs. Our little Carter loved being part of this even though they usually came in late at night. Taylor went with him to the beach to watch and on some occasions to help. See all the eggs they gathered from one turtle.
Fun Dinners Out with Grandchildren, Swimming at the Pool, Card Games
Crazily, our anniversary always falls while we are in Cancun. This year we went to our favorite restaurant in downtown Cancu,n but took four grans and Taylor with us. It was still really fun, and we did get to go back just the two of us the second week. (Taylor is Brennon’s past dance student and now teacher at her studio. She seems a part of the family and has gone with us on several trips doubling as babysitter for the girls and photographer for us.)
So Very Glad to be Home
As fun as Cancun is. Home is better. We thank the Lord for time away but a safe return and protection while we were gone.
I’d love to hear about your summer plans. Do you have any family traditions? Please leave a comment below.
