Beware of Habits of the Unsuccessful
We must beware of those habits of the unsuccessful. Knowing the enemy’s tactics is important in every war. We are in a war.
These habits found in the “unsuccessful” are ones we must become very aware of so that we don’t fall into their trap and blindly adopt them for ourselves.
10 Common Habits to Run From
These are ideas from Terri Foy’s book Things Successful People Do Before 8 AM (with my own ideas included). Watch for a follow-up post revealing 7 Attitude Diseases named by Jim Rohn. They aren’t all the same, but they do walk hand in hand. And we want to be free of all of them.
Complaining
Complainers aren’t any fun to be around. They seem to enjoy wasting their time complaining. They don’t realize that although “negative” is rather normal in life, it is not successful. Jim Rohn says this is possibly the most deadly of the attitude diseases.
Always being Late
The unsuccessful even joke about always being late. They don’t seem to realize the lack of respect it shows to the ones who came on time or planned the event to begin at a certain time.
Blaming Others
No, nothing is ever their fault. I think of Adam and Eve. Adam blamed Eve for giving him the apple when he failed to take the responsibility to say, “no!” People of character stand up and take the responsibility for themselves.
Wasting Money
Scripture tells us if we are faithful in the little, we will be ruler over much. Those who are not faithful over little are seldom given much more. How can they be trusted?
Surrounding with Unsuccessful
“Iron sharpens iron.” We tend to become like the ones we associate with. It is important to look at your circle of friends.
Watching TV a Lot
This is a difficult habit to break for most. TV will steal our time to read, to have conversations with our loved ones, and our time to pray and plan. The unsuccessful tend to live the life of others instead of adventuring into creating life for themselves.
Being Careless about Health
The unsuccessful are too busy to care about their health. Oh, how sad this is. Possibly they think they are invincible. Or could it be they don’t value themselves enough to take the care needed? Our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. It is where we live. If we neglect this body, where will we live? Care about your personal health and fitness! Turn Fitness Goals into Habits
Gossipping
This is deadly! It is a slippery slope easily fallen into. We each need to constantly monitor our acts and watch out for this trap of the enemy to enter innocently (seemingly) in.
Procrastinating
This unsuccessful habit steals our self-confidence as we fail to keep promises to ourselves. As we complete small daily disciplines consistently self-confidence will grow. Don’t sabotage your own personal growth.
Quitting
There is a race set before us. God has given each of us special giftings and special callings. It isn’t always easy. It usually isn’t. The completion of our destiny requires time to prepare, study, fail and learn from failures. The practice of sticking with what we begin will lead us to the successful attitude of “Quitting is not an option.”
