Let’s Rewire for Happiness
Scientists are now finding out that what God has told us in His Word is true. Recent studies suggest that happiness in not an unattainable dream. (Happiness is the by product of the fruit of the Spirit: particularly love, peace and joy). Results from certain habits can sculpt the very tissues of the brain. They can and they do – positive or negative.
Our brain is constantly changing. Neuroplasticity is the brain’s ability (via renewing of the mind) to change its structure in response to thoughts, feeling and experiences. They key to rewiring for happiness is focusing on positive thoughts and memories.
Create new brain wiring by dwelling on a good memory or a scripture for at least 10 to 12 seconds. Using many different senses will enrich the memory. By intentionally savoring the words or the memory, you will be firing as many neurons as possible firing together so they start rewiring together.
Research at the University of California, Berkeley suggests “imagining that the experience is going into them the way water goes into a sponge.” They say you could tell yourself directly that you are absorbing the experience. If this is done often enough, this absorbing of the experience creates new neural connections that transform passing mental states, such as feeling cheerful, into lasting neural traits, such as being a cheerful person.
If you “absorb” good memories, good experiences half a dozen times a
day for even a minute at a time, this will change your life.
We tend to move toward and to become what we think about the most. Dr. Caroline Leaf reveals that this neuroplasticity process is a dual process. As we think on thoughts good, pure and lovely, and of a good report; we build new healthy cells and we melt toxic thoughts already there.
Remember, What Jesus Said in John 15:5 –
“I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5
Connect to the Vine
Positive thinking alone will not do the trick. You and I need the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit to do this rewiring. With His strength and ability, all things are possible.
