New Ways to Use an Apple Slicer
One of our Fabufit class members shared with me how she had learned to use her apple slicer to cut squash and make delicious baked squash spears. An oblong squash would work.
Here are the steps Louise used:
- Cut the squash in half. If you have a 10 inch length squash, you would now have two 5 inch pieces.
- Next put the squash cut side down on a cutting board standing 5 inches tall.
- Use the Apple Slicer in position so that the part that would normally take out the apple core is positioned to be more on the edge and get the seed part of the squash instead.
- Zuchinni or Stripe Squash
- Yellow Squash
Now you are ready for options. The first is to bake the squash spears on a baking sheet

- Coat by tossing the squash in Olive Oil
- Sprinkle Sea Salt or Garlic Salt on top.
- Bake at 350 about 15-18 minutes

What Kind of Apple and What Else Can Be Done?
The OXO brand is the one Louise uses. I found one on Amazon that has a flexible protective pusher with it. Yes, I like this feature. I have cut my finger using the current one I have. There are many other things it can be used for like:
- Potato Wedges
- Onions for Kebabs (and More!)
- Don’t Forget About Pears
“Apple’s good buddy the pear is also easy to slice with this divider. Throw those slices into a spinach salad with goat cheese and toasted walnuts.” – OXO Manufacturer
Please comment and let me know what uses you have found for the Apple Slicer.
