Cold Days Do Love Soup
Cold days do love soup. The past several Januarys John and I have participated in a church-wide fast for 21 days. We choose a Daniel Fast, which consists of vegetables, fruits, and nuts. We enjoy using Paleo Soups for this fast. Soups are delicious. We didn’t miss the meat or paleo desserts a bit having these soups.
Tomato Basil Soup
The tomato basil soup is pictured above. It may be the all time favorite. This soup is every bit as delicious as the one at La Madeline’s Restaurant. It is quite delicious to make a little batch of Paleo pancakes to go with the soup. We have found a very easy Paleo Pancake mix at Costco. All you do is add water. Since this is made of almond flour, we count it acceptable on our Daniel Fast. You might check the link to find a Costco near you. You do have to have an annual membership (like Sam’s Club) but this membership is very well worth it. John and I now do the majority of our grocery shopping at Costco. They cater to having the healthy things we use.
Chicken Pot Pie Soup
In earlier posts, I mentioned our favorite: https://www.fabulouslyfit.com/chicken-pot-pie-soup :Chicken Pot Soup. This one is still our favorite, but because of the chicken in it, we didn’t use it this year during the fast. In fact, we haven’t been making this one as much simply because it is very time-consuming..
Vegetables are Our Miracle Workers
Vegetables go to work in our body feeding the trillions of cells who are crying “Feed me, I’m hungry.” I have mentioned the Cuisinart Convection/Steam Oven we purchased during the Black Friday sales. It was expensive, but honestly, we have used it almost every single day since it arrived. Each night we toss in vegetables to include one or combination s of the following:
Cauliflower
Brussel Sprouts
BroccoliMushrooms
Green Beans
Acorn Squash
Sweet Potatoes
These vegetables cook quickly and are far more delicious than they ever were when I only steamed them on the cooktop of our stove.
- Our Oven
- Cauliflower and Brussel Sprouts topped with a little Parmasean Cheese
- Assortment of Vegetables
- Fresh Mushrooms
Quick and Easy
I really like EASY and QUICK. The past couple of so years I adapted a simple spice recipe and found out the same basic ingredients worked for many soups. These are the kind of recipes I like. The basic recipe credit goes to Elana of Elanaspantry.com. I made my basic recipe even more simple than hers.
Basic Creamy Soup Paleo Recipe
Ingredients
1/2 to 1 Onion chopped and sauteed 10 minutes
1 tsp. Salt
1 tsp. Pepper
1 tsp. Garlic powder or granules
1 can Coconut Cream
1 can or MORE Bone Broth (I’ve only used Chicken Bone Broth, but Beef would also be good.)
Your vegetable of choice. Examples we have made include:
- Cauliflower – add one large head of steamed Cauliflower
- Brocolli – add several fresh broccoli stalks steamed
- Mushroom – add 1 or 2 pounds of fresh sauteed mushrooms
- Butternut Squash – add one peeled, cubed, sauteed Butternut Squash along with about 1/2 tsp Nutmeg with spices. NOTE: Butternut Squash is hard to peel. We have found it already freshly peeled and cut up at Costco. This saves so much time.
- Avocado Soup
- Asparagus – steamed with Nutmeg added
- Japanese Sweet Potato
Old favorites continue to be the Paleo Tomato Basil Soup and Chicken Pot Soup.
Benefits of Soup
Yes, cold days do love soup; but even if your days aren’t cold, your body will love soup anyway.

Ever wondered by chicken soup is always given to the sick? It is because soup is great for people who are sick. It is easily digested and is filled with health benefits.”
