Midnight
A Treasure Found
One of several treasures was discovered this weekend as I listened to our Pastor at a very sad funeral and then during our Sunday service. Let me share a beautiful story about a friend’s mother who held on to Lamentations 3 in the midst of a battle with cancer.
Lamentations 3:21-23 (NLT)
21 Yet I still dare to hope
when I remember this:
22 The faithful love of the Lord never ends![a]
His mercies never cease.
23 Great is his faithfulness;
his mercies begin afresh each morning.
The background of the writing of Lamentations 3 is a very grave situation. Israel was under seize of invaders. The destruction and suffering was beyond words. Yet, they still DARED TO HOPE when they remembered that His mercies are new every morning.
As the friend’s mother drew closer and closer to death, her journal contained these words:
“I can’t wait till midnight.” In the last days all she could write was “midnight”. She held on to Lamentations 3. At midnight she knew she would get a fresh dose of mercy. “His mercies are new every morning.” She dared to hope until her very last breath.
