3 Principles of Healthy Eating that Stand the Test of Time
Diets come and go; but there are 3 principles of Healthy Eating that stand and have stood the test of time. Rex Russell, in his book, What the Bible Says about Healthy Eating, shares these rock solid principles. Dr. Russell states that 999 out of every 1000 people lack proper nutrition. The connection becomes vividly clear as to why there is so much sickness, overweight, and shortened lifespans in our nation. To beat the odds, take you to your ideal weight, and keep you there, you need to choose energy-giving, fat-burning foods.
Eat the Foods God Created for You
Food is a gift from our Lord. He created such a great variety of foods for us to enjoy. They give us healthy, vitality and long life. We don’t have to have worry or guilt about eating them.How can we discover what these foods are? Dr. Russell recommends using these boundaries as we search the scriptures:
- The designer calls an item “food”
- When God brings an item to His people as a gift
- If Jesus at or served a food

Don’t Alter God’s Design
Whoops! Here is where it gets challenging. So much of our food in today’s food supply has been altered in some way. Processed food is everywhere. Fast Food Restaurants are on every corner. We are going to need to go on a treasure hunt to find the food God created for us before it has been altered and damaged.

Don’t Let Any Food or Drink Become Your God
Your body would like to make demands and insist you obey. Yes, certain foods and drinks are quite favorable to the flesh. It is easy to give in. However, the more you give in, the stronger grip that food or drink begins to have on you. Actually you might become it’s slave. As Christians we are instructed to only worship the Lord, our God.

15-18 So, since we’re out from under the old tyranny, does that mean we can live any old way we want? Since we’re free in the freedom of God, can we do anything that comes to mind? Hardly.
