Turn Fitness Goals into Habits
Goals are important but have you thought about how to turn fitness goals into habits? This is where the victory is seen. Team Fabulous is just now completing a course on Habits of the Most Successful As I worked on preparing class four, I came across a new thought. It is a pretty simple concept, but something I had never put much thought into until now. It is pretty easy to do. Like Jeff Olsen in his book, The Slight Edge, teaches, it is also one of those things pretty easy to be overlooked. Few people do this. For me, it has made a world of difference already in achieving my goals.
The Simple Concept
Establish your goal and then break that goal into
habits that you take into autopilot.
How to Turn a Fitness Goal into Habit
Focusing on one goal at a time may be much more powerful than having many goals with divided attention. Once the goal is set for the month (some of mine have had a two month + time frame), begin to think of where you are now and what habits need to be in place to achieve that goal. My goal for August/September involves preparation for an upcoming course I will be teaching. For this to fall into place, I need two main habits established and taken to autopilot:
- Time scheduled for work on the material, organization, etc.
- Daily prayer and scripture affirmation for this course to be a “make a difference” meaningful time for the ladies involved.
Zero in on Turning One Fitness Goal into a Habit
Zeroing in on one important goal alone for at least a set period of time, (with the associated habits decided upon and committed to), takes the habit toward autopilot and at the same time moves you right to the achievement of the goal.
Autopilot is where the miracle occurs. Will Power is no longer needed. The habit has become easier to do than not to do.
“Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.”
