Where in the World Do Thoughts Come From?

summerroseSummer is such a wonderful time of year. I love the grandson’s ballgames, the beautiful green lawns and trees, and at least a little time in the sun at the pool here and there. This summer has been filled with such moments of joy — we have two family birthdays this month: our daughter, Brooke Dijon, and our grandson, Cameron Buchanan. How we celebrate the lives of these precious ones. We have also had a few more challenges than usual this summer. I keep remembering that “We overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the Word of our testimony.”

Years ago I read a book called  Thou Givest……They Gather by Amy Carmichael. This book contained a phrase I have been thinking on this past month or so.

“There is always something new in our lives which calls for VITAL FAITH
is the phrase that I keep remembering.

The writing goes on to say……….”, if we are to go on with God: But there is always the word waiting in His Book which will meet us just where we are and carry us further on. It will be a fight to the end — “the good fight of faith” is His Word about it — but full provision is made for victory in that fight, and whether the matter that engages us has to do with our inner life or the outer, there is nothing to fear. It is our Father’s good pleasure to give us the Kingdom. We need never — by His grace we shall never — be defeated.” ~ Amy Carmichael.

June and July theme for Fabulously Fit  has been The Power of Our Every Thought and Word. All who are Members of the Fabulously Fit Baby Boomer’s Club are also engaged in a four week webcast/conference call course on this very topic.

The instruction manual that the Master has given to each of us is filled with Kingdom Laws about our thoughts and our Words.  When we learn these principles, they will literally change our lives.

Before words are spoken, thoughts are thought. So where do thoughts come from anyway? Can we do anything about what we think?

Two classic authors on the subject of our Words are
Charles Capps and Francis Martin.

Francis Martin says there are three sources of thoughts:

1. Our Five Senses

Every single thing that you and I have learned since we were born into this world has entered into our subconscious via our five physical senses.

2. The Devil

JN 13:2 tells us that the devil put the thought of betrayal into the heart of Judah. Remember, satan cannot read your mind, only attack it with thoughts. I remember a story told by the late Faith General, Kenneth Hagin Sr. He said “You can’t stop a bird from flying over your head, but you can stop him from building a nest in your hair.”

3. Our Father, God

God can put thoughts into our heart and into our mind by His Holy Spirit. IF our mind is renewed by the Word of God (Romans 12:2), we can use these God given thoughts. If our mind is not renewed, we may well not even recognize the instruction, guidance, warnings, or ideas He is giving us.

We may rightly liken our mind to a computer. The computer has to be programmed. Our mind becomes programmed by our environment as we grow up. Most of the time it is programmed with some to much bad data coming in.

A Powerful Reprogramming Software

There is a magnificent  and powerful software to reprogram our mind. This software package is called The Bible, God’s Word. This is the Manufacturer’s Handbook for Life. If we daily feed on this Book of Life so that it gets into our heart, we will detect and challenge every opposing thought that tries to enter into our mind.

Proverbs 4:23 tells us to guard our heart with all diligence.

Just like with computers, viruses will attack. What do we do? We bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. One translation says we make every thought give up that is not in line with the Word of God.
