Winners Never Quit
We all face crises in life. You may be in the midst of one (maybe many) right at this moment in time. You don’t know what to do. Human effort just isn’t enough. You need supernatural help.
Many just give up and settle. “Que sera sera, whatever will be will be.” Don’t consider giving up. Don’t settle for less than God’s best. Victory is just around the corner.
I am reminded of my study of Centenarians. The one single quality that most every Centenarian possessed was that of being self-determined and having a vision of long life. No they weren’t willing to settle. I am sure they lived through many hard times and many hardships, but they pressed on and they didn’t give up.
Vivion Thornton
Vivion Thorton, one who soon became one of my Mom’s best friends, is an inspiration to me. Vivion lived to celebrate her 102nd birthday. We met this amazing lady when my mom moved into Colonial Lodge Assisted Living. Mom had told me as she left her own home after a fall and hip replacement that she knew she needed the assisted living, but would not choose to make any friends. But then, she was assigned to her meal table with Vivion Thornton. Vivion’s charm and loving concern for others soon opened the door to become Mom’s friend. Actually, I think she became one of the best friends my Mom ever had. (Watch for my second post about Vivion and Mom’s friendship.) But back to Vivion right now. She played golf until she was 94. In her last played round of golf, she shot a 122. A week later she has a stroke that disabled her left side.
Never Give Up
Did Vivion give up and settle? Absolutley not! Although in a wheel chair, when I first met Vivion at age 97, she still dressed and showered herself. ( I have no idea how.) She told me she even puts on her own hose with one arm. When I asked her how in the world she did that, she said,
“You just do what you have to.”
Our family loved Vivion and got to spend a lot of time with her at meals when we went to eat with Mom, and at shared family events like birthdays for Vivion and also for Mom which we had at Colonial Lodge and later at Appletree Court. Vivion fought the good fight of faith all the years of her life. She chose to be happy and grateful.
What Instructions Does God Give Us About Fighting the Good Fight of Faith?
The Bible tells us to resist the devil and he will flee from us. Gloria Copeland in her book God’s Masterplan for You” says, “Victory comes to every person who stubbornly believes the Word of God – no matter what happens.”
Become stubbornly determined to take the victory and to live a long strong life.
You will need faith in God’s promises: faith that He loves you, He wants you to prosper and be in health, even as your soul (mind, will and emotions) prospers, faith that your situation is not too hard for God to handle.
You will also need patience. Faith and Patience inherit the promises. For every weapon that the devil tries to use against you, God has a greater weapon to counterattack.
